The 7 Deadly Sins of Painting
Painting Deadly Sin #1 Sloth (Virtue: Diligence)
Sloth is more than mere laziness, it's also apathy. You want to paint, but you're not willing to put the time in to learn fundamental techniques and skills. You want to paint more detailed images, but still want to finish a painting in an afternoon. You want the results, but deny the due diligence you need to put in.
Painting Deadly Sin #2 Wrath (Virtue: Patience)
Do you get angry when a painting isn't working as you wish? Are you impatient for results? Do you hate particular subjects because you think they're difficult to paint? Anger, impatience, rage, hatred... these are all part of the painting sin of wrath. It takes time to create a painting as finished as the one you visualized when you had the idea. It takes patience to learn the skills, to spend the time a painting needs to get the result you want.
Painting Deadly Sin #3 Gluttony (Virtue: Temperance)
Are you always buying yet another paint color, a better brush, or new art gadget that promises to do this or that? Retail therapy with art materials is a diversion from your painting. Great art can be made with a pencil or ballpoint pen and a sheet of computer paper. Great painting comes mostly from the artist's mind and learned skills, not the materials.
Painting Deadly Sin #4 Greed (Virtue: Charity)
Is your creativity led by what you'll gain by making a particular painting, rather than anything else? Are you painting foremost for financial gain, for instance commissions only? Are you focused on gaining a place in the annals of art rather than the pleasure of what you're doing now? The sin of greed is about gain, not consumption (that's covered elsewhere).
Do you hoard your knowledge and ideas? Many an art teacher will tell you how much they've learned by sharing what they know. Even if you taught someone everything you knew, they'd still do something different with it because they're not you.
Painting Deadly Sin #5 Lust (Virtue: Chastity)
Are you always “going with the flow”, sometimes getting great results but also disappointing yourself regularly by working too far on a painting and feeling let down when things don't flow? Take pleasure in the act of painting, but take the time to analyze what works and doesn't, what could be improved, what should be used again another time.
Painting Deadly Sin #6 Envy (Virtue: Kindness)
There will always be painters whose work you prefer to your own, who you think are better, who have ideas you wish you'd had. Being envious won't improve your painting. Being kind to yourself and giving yourself time to develop as an artist will.
There will always be that photograph that looks so good, if only you could reproduce it.... Don't let envy lead you into copyright theft.
Painting Sin #7 Pride (Virtue: Humility)
This isn't about being pleased with what you've painted, being proud to show off a finished painting. It's the irrational pride that stops you evaluating what you're painting accurately. If you think you're extremely self-critical and thus never guilty of this painting sin, think about when last you didn't want to touch a section of a painting because it was “a good bit”.
Pride can also stop you learning from others. If you think you have it all then anything someone else does, even the great masters, isn't going to influence you. But there is so much from across the centuries, so many people have tried so many paths, there's no need to reinvent the wheel yourself while you develop as an artist. Learn from what others have done, then make it your own.

It was Fegelein
This morning my Biology teacher said there was only one A in our first exam, so I slightly facepalmed and thought, "Man, it gotta be that girl who sits next to me in the lab." *brief moment of admiration* He also suggested those who didn't do so well on the exam should go ask this A person how to study more effectively. I facepalmed again.
Shortly after that I found out I made a 94.
Fegelein, what did you do to my exam/my teacher's computer? It was supposed to be a B or C.
If anybody ever asks me anything I'll just point to Fegelein, like, bribe him with a crappy doodle or something.
Goals:
1.To be able to spin an image in my mind.
2.To be able to draw an object from any angles without seeing its physical representation or rotating the paper. (Whatever that means.)
The result is quite obvious: I failed at both. But at least I learned something new (yet old): logical thinking. Can never escape geometry can't I.
I tried joining a RP group yesterday but most people ignored me so yeah, I don't see it threatening my drawing time at all. I can gladly forget my socializing dream anytime.

A day to remember pt.2
A day to remember
A kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they drew, occasionally walking around to see each child's artwork. As she got to one little girl who was laboring diligently, she asked what the drawing was.
The girl replied, "I'm drawing God."
The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."
Without missing a beat or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, "They will in a minute."
Children smile about 300 times a day, but when they grow up, the number decreases to 15. Realistic adults have robbed the ability to think positive in all circumstances from children, I believe. As we grow older, we are more vulnerable to negative thoughts. Positive adds up, while negative minuses the joy in our lives.
Without dreamers, where would the world go to?
Also, my deepest sympathy to the families of those who perished 9 years ago in New York. I saw some of the artifacts found at Ground Zero yesterday and that really hit me.

Study 1
Every object I chose to draw is hard, or it's just that I'm too sucky.
Random afdksfhsjaadl ball idk ]8
I have wasted approximately 10 thousand hours of my life waiting for web pages to load. Now I'm out of here to prevent potential heart attacks etc etc. Maybe I should move to S.Korea where internet connection isn't so bad.

Unfinished
Never judge a picture by its thumbnail. Never.
This is my very first time trying to paint this kind of picture, with dramatic lightning (if any) and all. Reference (by Sparth) used. I've always wanted to do this ;A;
Refining details is so hard...
I don't know how long it will take me to do something like this:
...probably decades, but I sure wanna try, for the love of my character :| BUT SPARTH YOU ARE SO AWESOME.
And by the way I think I have officially stopped reading manga.

Today I'm an early bird
Magnificent painting by Algenpfleger.
Hey.
I just found this really amazing artist called Algenpfleger. He is almighty Janaschi's friend. I think I've seen his collab with her before, but I didn't pay attention since I thought he was already kicking butts in the beginning.
Anyway.
I ran into his sketchbook today just to be amazed at his FORKING WICKED progress. My current level is about the same as his when he was 19. I mean, I can really see myself and personal struggle in his old sketches. He had the same problems with faces, eyes, noses, shading, anatomy, colors, etc, but now look at where's he at. This gives me SO MUCH hope. Thank God for waking me up early today, 'cause most awesome things happen while the sun's still fresh. Yes, mommy does know what she's doing every morning.
*digs around for more awesomeness*

Ranting is wrong, but it feels so right
Random picture has nothing to do with the post.
I'm about to leave dA (stop posting pictures) partly because some of the things I see recently just don't seem right at all 8\ It's a really nice place to get inspiration, but that's about it. I no longer have the heart to participate in any activities other than faving pictures. The main thing is, I've found another good site where true art get the kind of appreciation it deserves.
Also, some of my recent pictures make me want to plug out and chew my eyeballs when I look at them. I'm not surpassing myself, I'm not improving at all. I have failed to beat myself in the last 3 months.
But as long as a turtle keeps moving, he will cross the finish line no matter how long it takes. (That's why turtles are so old lol)
P.S: A lot of amazing artists are using the same blog theme that I've been using since I first signed up lol (not following trend or anything).

Why I should be homeschooled
...Because my teacher definitely did not see this one coming:
It was just an eye in the beginning but Fegelein commanded me to go on and on I couldn't help it.
Quick concept sketch of a scene I had in mind for like, 10 seconds @___@ It was like a movie scene. I wish I could paint what I actually saw *A*

So how am I supposed to study for my first test now? I'm so ready to bomb it lol.
