Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is indeed, madness, especially in an economy like this. I am not comfortable with I am doing because it is way too comfortable. Life is a constant struggle, not a comfy blanket. (Also, if I hide myself in a blanket, nobody will see me!)
Today I just received some discouraging advices from my uncle. He pretty much says art is not a practical major, only people who were born rich will become well-known artists, and most of the people he knows who had different art degrees (commercial art, graphic design, design) are currently just average people (teacher, waitress, and housewife). He wants me to think about those examples of the typical 'unsuccessful' art students who did not end up with an art-related job that brings good money and get "real", I guess.
What can I say, to each his own. To me art is not just art. It is everything. The world needs it, but most people (non-artist) are not aware of that. As a matter of fact, everyone in my family thinks art is too "artistic" (or sentimental/unreal, and I think "useless" is the most accurate word in this scenario). They always raise questions like, "Will you do any good with art? Are you sure you can make a living with it? Do you know what starving artist means?" From those questions, I can tell they are not impressed by what I am doing (which is expectable because my works are weak in many ways, but I won't have to worry about being spoiled by praises), and they don't have much faith in me either. If that's how they look at me, how much more critical will the world look at me?
YOU NEVER KNOW what one can or cannot do. ANYONE CAN BE ANYTHING. THE UNTRIED IS NOT THE IMPOSSIBLE. I refuse to be intimidated. I know I am
If I put practical knowledge of other fields into my art, I believe I can make a difference. As long as I am not out there partying and wasting money, I am on the right track.
But how and where do I get all that knowledge? Only God knows. If what I am doing is not against His plan, He will provide me with everything I need to reach my goal. Right now I can only force myself not to be lazy, and find what's already there for me.
PS.: My new nibs are here loool yay.
